Brintons amazing 'parquet' carpet on Homes & Gardens stand at Decorex International 2013
Brintons was commissioned by Louisa Grey to create a bespoke 'parquet' carpet for the Homes & Gardens stand at Decorex International 2013.
The carpet was designed from an original parquet image and woven on Brintons high definition loom.
Louisa Grey tells us the story behind this inspiring project: I was asked by Homes & Garden Magazine to creatively design the Homes & Garden stand for Decorex. This was to show the winners of the Homes & Garden fabric and wallpaper awards for 2013. This year it was held at Kensington Palace so it needed to stand alone.
I wanted to display the designs differently to fill the space and make it a visual space. I have worked with Brintons for a number of years and worked on their stand for The Coronation Festival at Buckingham Palace so I was familiar with high definition process and the amazing results it produced.
This was a purely conceptual stand and did not need to be realistic. As it was looking to Spring/Summer 2014 I wanted it to feel fresh and uplifting and challenge the consumers approach.
I had a varied mix of fabrics and wallpaper to work with and I wanted it to feel eclectic hence the concept for summer travel. I commissioned The Makerie, a paper studio, to design the paper car and use the fabrics and wallpapers to make the paper suitcases which where covered in the various designs. The parasols where made using Fultons umbrella structures with James Ince umbrellas constructing them and I was so thrilled with the overall look and how clear you could see the designs.
The carpet design came to fruition as I wanted to emulate comfort and not distract too much from the Home element of the stand, knowing the breadth of the high definition pioneering weaving technique that Brintons have created I decided they were the perfect company to approach. They kindly worked with me to develop the best look and colour for the parquet flooring which I wanted to emulate as a light grey Scandinavian floor, this was created and such a success.
