Sustainability

Our commitments

Meeting our needs today without depleting the world's resources for tomorrow.

Being able to meet our needs today without depleting the world's resources for tomorrow is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to operating in socially and environmentally responsible ways. Our wool rich products offer a sustainable flooring choice. We actively work to improve our environmental performance across our operations worldwide.

Wool Hands

WOOL RICH PRODUCTS

Wool is a durable fibre. The longer lifecycle of wool rich woven carpets, combined with good maintenance, negates the need for frequent replacement. Reduced replacement cycles means less waste.

Wool is a natural and renewable resource. Shearing is essential for the welfare of sheep and wool grown on sheep which graze freely is 100% natural, plus it's easily recyclable and biodegradable, making wool the ultimate sustainable choice for flooring.

LEED

Our carpets contribute positively to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification system (developed by the U.S. Green Building Council) which promotes global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices.

Indoor air quality is protected through very low emissions of VOC’s, even when carpet is new. Our carpets do not pollute the air. They actually remove some of the contaminants and improve the overall living environment.

Brintons products contribute to LEED certification in two categories:

  • Rapidly Renewable Materials
  • Low Emitting Materials

GREEN LABEL PLUS

CRI Green Label Plus

All Brintons 80% wool 20% nylon woven axminster and wilton carpets meet the stringent standards of The Carpet & Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus programme, an independent testing program that identifies carpet with very low VOC emissions to help improve indoor air quality.

OUR PROCESSES

Sustainability and environmental stewardship underpins our activities. We actively work to improve our environmental performance to reduce our impact on the environment, continually developing our environmental policies and procedures across our operations worldwide.

We are continually looking at ways to reduce energy and water consumption and our carbon emissions across all sites:

  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Use of recycled water in dyeing
  • High efficiency lighting

ISO 14001:2015

ISO

All Brintons’ manufacturing sites have environmental management systems in place. Our manufacturing facilities* are accredited to ISO14001:2015 the International Environmental Management System, a structured framework for identification, control and improvement of environmental impacts.

*excluding Brintons Poland manufacturing site.

APCO Commitment

APCO

The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) is a co-regulatory not-for-profit organisation leading the development of a circular economy for packaging in Australia.

In 2020, Brintons Australia joined APCO, demonstrating our shared responsibility for managing the environmental impacts of packaging. We are actively working towards APCO’s 2025 packaging targets.

By 2025:

  • 100% of the packaging used in our Australian business will be reusable, recyclable or compostable.
  • 70% of the plastic packaging we use will be recycled or compostable.
  • We will use packaging that has 50% average recycled content.
  • We will phase out use of problematic and unnecessary single-use plastics packaging.

We are committed to adopting a mindful approach to packaging, making changes to the way we design, use and buy packaging and packaged products so that packaging uses less resources and is more easily recycled.

We commit to working with our supply chain partners and the wider industry community to increase awareness and understanding of the impact of our packaging use to improve sustainability outcomes in Australia.

MCG INDEX

Developed through an industry-wide stakeholder engagement process, the HSP Index aligns the efforts of suppliers with the needs of hoteliers to sustainably furnish and supply hotels while meeting existing design, quality, service and cost needs.

Through a comprehensive evaluation and 3rd party audit of company practices, operations and products, the HSP Index provides a comparative measure of the commitment, efforts and accomplishments of suppliers in delivering products and services in socially and environmentally responsible ways.
