Quirky and eclectic, the QT Hotel in Sydney’s CBD is one of the city’s most stylish boutique hotels. Brintons collaborated with Shelley Indyk, Indyk Architects to create a striking collection of unique Handtufted rugs and carpets for the hotel - each designed to celebrate and amplify the hotel's retro styling.
The QT Hotel is set within two iconic buildings, the historic Gowings Men’s Department Store and heritage-listed State Theatre. Acclaimed interior design firms Nic Graham and Associates (G+A) and Indyk Architects were tasked with the dramatic restoration and transformation of the buildings’ interiors. G+A was responsible for the public areas including boutique café Parlour Lane, Gowings Bar and Grill and cocktail bar, Gilt Lounge. Shelley Indyk from Indyk Architects created 12 design stories for the 200 guest rooms.
The public areas are playful yet sophisticated and incorporate many of the building’s original features. The guest rooms take design cues from the architectural provenance of the buildings. There is an understated masculinity and artisan quality to the rooms in the Gowings building. In contrast, the suites in the State Theatre exude theatrical flamboyance.
