Useful tips to keep your wool-rich carpet looking beautiful
Keep it clean | Vacumming
Frequent light cleaning is the best way to look after your carpet's good looks!
Vacumming is the easiest and most important thing you can do to keep your carpet clean. Vacuum at least once a week and more often in areas of your home that have higher use. This will remove dirt, which could otherwise lead to grime build up and staining.
You can’t over vacuum a carpet! We recommend using an upright vacuum cleaner with a cylindrical brushing action or a barrel vacuum cleaner with a power brush attachment.
Walk it off | Use barrier matting
One of the easiest ways to limit the amount of dirt coming into your home is to use barrier matting. Use door mats or why not use an offcut of your beautiful new carpet to create a small entry rug! Remember to give them a regular clean so that soil and dirt doesn’t spread to your carpet.
Act fast | Spillages and stains
In the course of normal daily life, floors get dirty – fact! Spills happen.
First – Don’t panic!
Spillages are more easily removed if tackled immediately.
The longer a spill has to ‘set’ the more difficult it can be to remove. If left untreated for too long it can react with the coloured carpet yarns and cause permanent damage or discolouration.
Golden rules for spills: Use a blotting / dabbing action
Liquid: Firmly blot liquid spills with a clean white cloth or absorbent paper towel.
Solid: Gently scrape solid spills. Be careful not to push the substance into the carpet pile.
Do not rub: This will cause the carpet pile to burst, causing it to look slightly fluffy and lighter in appearance.
Do not over-wet your carpet.
Choose WoolSafe® | Approved operators
For persistent or very large stains, it is always advisable to consult a professional carpet cleaner. Brintons recommends the use of WoolSafe® approved operators and chemicals (www.woolsafe.org) for the professional removal of stains.
Useful items to keep in stock for emergency use are WoolSafe® approved shampoo solution suitable for use on wool rich carpets (available from most supermarkets) and stain removing spray for grease or oil spots.
